The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) says it is planning sympathy protests in South Africa in support of the strike in Zimbabwe that is scheduled to take place this week. The strike action in Zimbabwe is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The strike is organised by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTC) to highlight what the union says is the economic meltdown in Zimbabwe.
The ZCTU has accused the government of failing to respond to concerns about the worsening economic crisis. In addition to Cosatu, six other major trade unions in Europe and Africa have backed the ZCTU strike call.
